Catechesis / Religious Education
Weekly P.R.E.P.
Our Weekly Parish Religious Education Program runs September through May. Students grades preschool-8 enroll to attend Sundays, 10:30-11:40 AM. 7th and 8th grade Morality, Adolescent Confirmation Preparation, and Church History also meets Sunday mornings.
Parents meet at least 1 time during the year, depending on the grade level(s) of their student(s).
Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, and Confirmation is accomplished in the classroom.
First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation programs serve students who have been baptized Catholic as infants, attend Mass regularly, and who have been enrolled in a Religious Education Program here at Queen of Peace or other Catholic parish previously. Preparation Programs are described elsewhere in this website.
Teens and adults are invited to volunteer in Weekly P.R.E.P. as assistants or catechists, office helpers, or hospitality. As part of our “Safe Environment” Policy, all volunteers complete an application form, are subject to a background check, trained in accord with diocesan “Guidelines for Volunteers,” and agree in writing to it’s terms.
Volunteers are interested in deepening their own faith, and are encouraged to attend the diocesan Catechetical Institute Day each fall, to participate in one “retreat” event per school year, and to enroll in the diocesan “Education for Ministry” program.

Summer P.R.E.P.
Our Summer Parish Religious Education Program offers a more “intensive” setting than the weekly program. Students grade 1-8 attend from 9AM-12:30 PM Monday-Friday the last 2 weeks in June to complete their systematic religious education for their grade level. Additionally, Summer P.R.E.P. students participate in one regular activity and at least five specific activities throughout the school year to help keep them “in touch with and grounded in” the parish.
Parents are invited to attend 1 or more meetings throughout the school year, depending on the grade level of their student(s).
Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is accomplished outside the classroom. In the fall, parents meet to receive information and books, and the actual preparation is accomplished in the home, parents and students together.
Teens and adults are invited to volunteer in Summer P.R.E.P. as assistants or catechists, “chauffeurs,” office helpers, or in the areas of hospitality or recess. As part of our “Safe Environment” Policy, all volunteers complete an application form, are subject to a background check, trained in accord with diocesan “Guidelines for Volunteers,” and agree in writing to it’s terms.
All catechetical volunteers are interested in deepening their own faith, and are encouraged to attend the diocesan Catechetical Institute Day each fall, to participate in one “retreat” event per school year, and to enroll in the diocesan “Education for Ministry” program.
